A day in the life of care worker

At White Cross Care our care workers have a wide range of different skills and duties to help and improve people’s standards of living.

Our Care Assistants work on the front line helping individuals to overcome the everyday difficulties they face.

There are a wide range of duties, washing, dressing, and maintaining their hygiene, as well as helping them with basic day-to-day or tasks like paying bills.

Our care assistants like to get to know the clients personally and providing them with emotional support and company, which contributes positively to their wellbeing.

Our carers can start early and often the client will need help getting out of bed. They may have arthritis or another condition that makes doing this themselves difficult.

Bathing and dressing are common morning activities for our care workers to help clients feel as good as possible when starting their day.

In the mornings we will cook breakfast and this is a good time to catch up with the client.

For many of our client’s housework can be a difficult task we will take the opportunity to do basic housework for our clients. Even simple tasks such as vacuuming, making the bed or washing the dishes can make a huge difference to their day.

At lunchtime our carers will prepare wholesome meals for our clients who are unable to prepare food themselves. Eating a healthy meal is so important to maintaining a healthy lifestyle. The client may need help with their shopping and our carer will collect essential items from the local supermarket.

Our carers may help clients with daily activities, they could be as simple as going for a short walk or taking laundry to the laundrette.

At night our carers will cook dinner, help them with medication, help them with going to the toilet, or take a bath.

It is often a long day for carer’s so it is important to unwind and relax at the end of the day.
